Scope of Delivery
Because it is a two-way radio, the Motorola CLS1110 comes with two handsets but for the price of one. The package also includes a drop-in charger with transformer, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, swivel belt holster, accessory brochure, user’s guide, and a warranty card. The warranty card is your ticket for free repairs or replacements if the products, batteries, and software have defects. It is valid for 90 days, so make sure to check all the items in the box before disregarding anything and have them replaced right away if they have physical issues.
Setup
Setting up the Motorola CLS1110 is straightforward and only takes a few minutes to complete. First, you need to install the Lithium-ion battery. You have to push down the battery compartment door found at the back of the radio, then insert the battery until it is securely in place. Put back the battery door by sliding it upwards until you hear a snap. It means that it is locked. This model is also compatible with disposable alkaline batteries. You need three AAA alkaline batteries and place them in the same battery compartment.
After installing the battery or batteries, activate the radio by turning the power button in a clockwise direction (the opposite direction to turn it off). When the handset is on, the transmit light flashes every three seconds, and the screen briefly shows the default features set on the radio. After a few seconds, the display shows the current channel and the assigned frequency (FREQ), shortly followed by the Interference Eliminator Code (CODE), until you only see the current channel displayed on the screen.
If you want to ensure that everything goes well, refer to the user’s manual for detailed instructions. The manual also contains other step-by-step details that you need to know in using the portable radio.
Waterproof
To keep it short and simple, the Motorola CLS1110 is not waterproof. In fact, the manufacturer has advised not to submerge or immerse the device in water. As much as possible, do not use alcohol or any cleaning solutions to clean the portable radio. When the radio is accidentally dropped in water, take it out immediately, then turn off the device and remove the batteries. Dry the radio using a soft cloth, then let it completely dry. Never place back the battery and turn it on if it is still slightly damp.
Power Source
The main power source of the Motorola CLS1110 is the rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It does not say whether or not it has remaining power when you receive the package. But I think that the battery still has enough power left to let you test the device. Drain the remaining, then charge it using the drop-in charger for a maximum of six hours for the initial charging. Subsequent charging cycles usually take around two to six hours as well. When the radio is on a full battery, it can last 12 hours on standby mode. You can use it for a whole day operation.
By the way, the drop-in charger has an extra charging slot where you can charge a spare battery. But it doesn’t start to load up the extra battery until the charging of the radio battery is complete. You also need to remember to turn off the radio when charging. If it’s still active, it may take a while to be fully charged.
Meanwhile, the alkaline batteries are disposable. They are not rechargeable, so you can throw them once the radio has used up all the power. However, it has a longer battery life, lasting 12 hours on standby mode. If you’re not using the radio all the time, the batteries can even last for more than three days. Between the two, the alkaline batteries are a better option because it takes away the inconvenience of waiting for the radio to be fully charged. But unfortunately, they are not included in the package, so you need to buy the disposable batteries separately.
Range
The range of the Motorola CLS1110 depends on the location where the radio is used. But according to the manufacturer, this model has a maximum range of five miles. Like inside concrete or steel buildings at industrial sites, the range can cover up to 200,000 sq. ft. For structures with multiple levels, the radio can work a maximum of 15 floors. If we take it outdoors without physical obstructions, then the range can reach five miles with one watt’s power output.
Frequencies
Like most professional two-way radios, the Motorola CLS1110 utilizes UHF (ultra-high frequency) in transmitting signals from radio to radio. With that said, its frequency range is between 461-470 MHz. And the most interesting thing is that it only works on one channel, but you can choose from 56 frequencies exclusive to business operations.
It means that if you are using the radio to enhance security or improve the services, then you can rely on the Motorola CLS1110 to improve voice quality during transmission and privacy. But be careful in accessing those frequencies. It is important to acquire an FCC license first before connecting to them.
Features
Aside from its unique design and lightweight durability, there is more to Motorola CLS1110 than meets the eye. It has a long list of features that make it one of the most outstanding professional walkie-talkies. Without further ado, here are some of its best features, and I think that they will help you decide if you want to get this device or not.
- 121 Codes – help you in acquiring clear signals, in addition to the 56 business-exclusive frequencies. Before using them, don’t forget to get an FCC license.
- Backlight – makes the keypads visible in dark areas.
- Call Tones – features three different alerts for incoming transmissions.
- Cloning Mode – copies profile settings from one radio to another. But you need to use a multi-unit charger, which is an optional accessory. It’s not included in the package, so you have to purchase it separately.
- Keypad Lock – puts the radio locked when not in use. This feature prevents settings from being changed unintentionally. You can safely put the radio in your pocket and not worry about any sudden changes.
For the complete list of features, check the user’s manual.
Price
Ok. Let’s talk about the price. Apparently, the Motorola CLS1110 is not within the low-budget range. It currently costs $159 on Amazon, excluding the shipping fee. But if you check the website of Motorola, its price is $189. It may go higher with the additional shipping fee. Whichever site you go to, it does not change the thought that this model is not really cheap.
Despite the high-range price, the Motorola CLS1110 does have an excellent rating, proving the customers’ satisfaction who have purchased the radio. If you find this expensive, think of it as an investment that can improve your business operations. It’s also a good purchase with its numerous features, easy assemble, straightforward usage, and lightweight.

Conclusion – Motorola CLS1110 Review
Now, I have come to the final part of this review, and I’m excited to say that the Motorola CLS1110 is worth buying. Although the items included in the package are not as many as the other two-way radios, it makes the assembly or set easy and fast. It has a long battery life, and you can use disposable batteries if you’re using the radio in open spaces where access to electricity is difficult.
Aside from that, it has dependable coverage so that you can use it anywhere in the building or establishment. The cost is not that budget-friendly, but you pay for impressive features that make the radio effective and reliable. As I have said, don’t mind the high price if the return is totally worth it.
